Our first week in review is centered around a lot of focus from Kim and Jason on the future Caffeine Crawl events. Tickets for Kansas City will sell out in about 15 days. We’re finalizing details on the After Party in KC, which will be announced on Thursday. Other efforts lean towards getting things tightened up so we can get tickets online for Springfield and Denver.
Speaking of coffee, we’re working on a fun rebranding project for an international coffee movement that we really believe in. We’ll be able to share more on that next month.
We’ve been working with the Lucky Bucket Brewing Company nearly since we opened the business. We love that relationship and it’s been great to see them grow. We’re helping their team get prepped for the fall, working on pr, and making sure that we stay connected with their fans among their distribution regions. This Friday, Jason will head to Omaha for their 2nd Annual BeerBQ.
On the writing side of things, Jason is finishing up an article on fall beers and Magdalena’s had two articles published. One is a feature on Spanish wines in HerLife and the other in tastebud on California wines perfect for hot temperatures.
Magdalena is currently in California catching up with family and started her winery visits today. Many of the wineries are ones that we work with through our friends at QED Wine Purveyors. We’ll have more on that next week, but you can follow her journey through @LAB5702 on Twitter, or directly @MagRahn.
After a few bumps and bruises we finally released our first retail product. It took longer than we anticipated, but we have a true partner in our vendor, Midtown Signs in Kansas City. We produced a set of four coasters that highlight signature recipes from some of the top bartenders in the country. Each one is a piece of art and every element was made in the U.S. There’s a 125 total sets, but only 100 available for purchase. Check them out. We’re starting on set number two and will also be watching the local scene as we work KC’s own bartending competition, GKCBC, which is one of the best in the country. Keep your Tom Cruise moves at home.
We are working on several other beverage-related products that will be ready this fall and looking forward to a few projects with a very talented leather maker out of Portland.
This might seem odd to some, but we really like receiving questions from fans of beverages that aren’t in the industry. We helped a few people with places to buy beer in a couple of states, created a easy, batched cocktail recipe for someone throwing a party and got to visit with a lot of beer and burger fans at Green Flash’s Missouri launch that took place at Blanc.
Last Sunday’s Kansas City Star featured a drink that we put together, although it didn’t take any skill. The skill was in the ingredients, B&S Root Beer and the best, local vanilla ice cream that you can find. You just can’t go wrong with a root beer float.
And lastly, we’re always experimenting around here, whether we use the ideas now or later. Jason played around with a few variations to the Southside cocktail, Kim is continuing to keep her barista skills polished while pulling shots of Southpaw from PT’s and we’re finishing up a cool (pun intended) frozen cocktail drink that’s a collaboration project with Christopher Elbow. You can find this drink at Snow and Co. next month.
